Welcome to Faculty Development at CSUCI! You have found our hub for supporting faculty success. Whether you are a tenure-track faculty member or lecturer, part-time or full-time, looking for someone to mentor or someone to be part of your mentoring network, looking to refine your teaching practices, or are seeking more general career development opportunities, you have come to the right place.

Our goal is to offer or direct you to comprehensive faculty development for your professional development. Faculty Development is housed in our Faculty Affairs, Success, and Equity office. We collaborate with the Mission Centers,  Teaching and Learning Innovations (TLi), Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP), the Broome Library, and Human Resources, among others, to offer and connect you with support services for faculty related to teaching and student success; research and creative activities; more collegial practices that value diversity, equity, and inclusion; and career success and excellence for all of our faculty.

FAQ

Where do I learn more about internal funding opportunities?
There are many internal funding opportunities for faculty at CSUCI. The three regular sources of funding are listed below, but others come up each year. Watch your email for opportunities.
- IRA - provides support for essential educational experiences and activities to aid and supplement the education of students at CI. For example, student travel, guest speakers. Deadline vary, but there is a call in fall and spring each year.
- Mini Grants - provide support for faculty around scholarship and creative activities. The call for proposals typically comes out via email towards the end of fall semester or early spring semester.
- Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities grants are available each year. This program is coordinated through Research and Sponsored Programs. Timeline varies.
Where do I get additional support for my students?
CSUCI has quite a few centers available to support students' academic needs. Some programs offer their own tutoring services directed towards program specific content. Campus also offers the following centers to support all students.
- Writing and Multiliteracy Center provides dynamic support services for composition in written, oral, and digital forms.
- Learning Resource Center provides one-on-one peer tutoring in study skills, fundamental concepts, comprehension, homework, test prep, and more.
- Student Success Services: STEM Center, Peer-Led Team Learning, STEM Success Integrative Learning Communities
What kind of support is available for teaching and learning?
Teaching & Learning Innovations is available to support you around teaching and learning. We also have many opportunities from our Hispanic Service Institution grants that are designed to support you in developing active, engaging learning opportunities. Watch your email for opportunities.
How do I get involved with Service Learning/Community Engagement?
The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) is the hub of curricular and co-curricular service-learning experiences and community engagement efforts at CI.

What do I do if I want to take students on an international studies experience?
The Center for International Affairs is available to help you develop international programs for students. They provide information on Long Term programs and faculty led short term travels through Univ 392. x2608
Who do I go to with questions about Retention, Tenure and Promotion?
Questions about Retention, Tenure, and Promotion are wide ranging.
- If you have questions about process, timeline, and "how-to", check the RTP schedules or contact Donna Flores in Faculty Affairs
- What do I need to do to get tenure? Review your Program Personnel Standards, the university RTP policy, and speak with your Program Chair. After you have selected your Program Personnel Committee, they will be of tremendous support in developing your portfolio as well.
- For general and ongoing support around RTP and your career development, contact Jules Balén or Stacey Anderson who will be happy to guide you.
How do I get involved in undergraduate student research?
CSUCI is committed to undergraduate student research. There are many opportunities to get involved including funding opportunities, and conference opportunities for students. Follow the links on the Faculty and Student Research page to learn more.
I'd like to get more involved on campus, how do I find opportunities?
CSUCI provides ample opportunities for service, but it can be confusing to know where to start when you first arrive. Check with your Program Chair and Academic Senate to learn about opportunities. A call for participation generally goes out from Academic Senate at the beginning and end of each academic year. Senate provides opportunities for service to all faculty.
